Overview

Applied Memetics LLC is seeking an experienced, motivated System Security Engineer to support our VA customer and has experience providing security engineering and analysis support for complex web applications. This resource must be comfortable working collaboratively with a team of other engineers, as well as owning engineering tasks from beginning to end. Experience working within an environment committed to industry best practices, including software lifecycle management, change control, documentation, and security / regulatory compliance is required. 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be well-versed in security operations, cyber security tools, intrusion detection, and secured networks. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure information security risk controls are implemented and appropriately monitored throughout a systems lifecycle
  • Provide information security analysis and documentation in accordance with NIST 800-53 base controls and configurations
  • Develop and implement technical solutions to meet regulatory security policies, as well as best practices for servers and private cloud resources
  • Provide network and security engineering expertise and guidance for all aspects of information assurance
  • Apply security fixes and patches to meet client security requirements
  • Assess security implications of new technologies or technology upgrades to planned and existing systems
  • Review Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA) and other cyber security bulletins and advisories such as US-CERT
  • Create (write) security briefs for clients

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronical Engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience is required. Eight (8) years of additional, relevant experience may be substituted for education. 

 

The candidate must have:

  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in security risk analysis and mitigation strategies is required
  • Experience with cyber security document management and familiarity with security and privacy rules associated with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST 800-53rev4
  • Proficiency with security requirements
  • IA expertise within a virtual infrastructure environment, to include monitoring, analysis, identification and troubleshooting issues around security
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP in regards to local- and wide-area networking and be able to troubleshoot network issues that may arise in regards to security
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn other computer software and hardware
