WebStringers - Cuba is offering a Fall semester internship opportunity to qualified undergraduate and gradudate candidates interest in the TV/media new industry. Internas gain hands-on experince while working on challenging projects, networking with professionals, and learnign from some of the brightest minds in the business.

 

 

About WebStringers

 

WebStringers is an integrated media production company that relies on a global network of stringers in conflict and post-conflict areas. Our goal is to support and empower independent journalists around the world in their struggle to advance the cause of human rights and democracy.

 

Over the past four years, we have been supporting and managing a strong network of independent journalists in Cuba via our Havana Spring program. They are the only native independent journalists that currently produce news video packages in the island.

Responsibilities

This position requires up to 20 hours a week. This is a remote/from home position, with scheduled meetings with Content Manager taking place in the Miami area. Hourly salary will be discussed during interview. Salary rate will be based on experience/education.

Duties and responsibilities of the position:

  • Assist Content Manager in conceiving and executing news coverage and coordinating reporters and field crews
  • Assist in generating new story ideas
  • Place and receive phone calls regarding prospective news stories
  • Participate in daily editorial meetings with client Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB)
  • Connect with the OCB editorial team on a regular basis so as to timely respond to OCB assignments
  • Ensure content meets quality and journalistic standards
  • Provide feedback to reporters/writers/photographers in field
  • Maintain relationships with stringers on the ground, to include supervising their work and assessing their needs
  • Review and edit video and written content.

Skills:

  • Bilingual – Spanish/English required (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Ability to generate and execute complex creative ideas and to assimilate and organize large amounts of information
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment to determine the relative importance of news events and how best to approach their coverage
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities and conditions
  • Excellent time management and organizational judgment and skills that facilitate managing multiple priorities and concurrent projects
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Great organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills (Can clearly communicate requirements to stringers, consultants, colleagues, and clients)
  • Working knowledge of Final Cut Express/Pro or Adobe Premiere
  • A candidate with international/Cuban affairs background, education, and/or experience will be highly considered

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Pursuing a Bachelor or Graduate degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or Broadcast TV
  • Must have authorization to work in the U.S
  • At least one (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher and/or advisor   #ZR
